In 2007 Veolia Environment (VE) launched Sequoia, an employee stock purchase plan, to employees of VE in Australia for the first time. This program provides employees with the opportunity to invest in their company and benefit from the value they help to create.
Every year employees can invest as little as one share in an investment trust based in France that holds VE stock. The company then makes a matching contribution.
Over 47,000 employees are already VE shareholders and they own approximately 1.4% of the capital of VE.
At VES we encourage our employees to pursue lifelong learning from initial training to acquire basic skills to training that builds on those skills and develops their careers. We offer a complete range of training courses from vocational to managerial and executive, taught by a mixture of professional teachers and global VE trainers. In the face of increasingly stringent regulations laid down by both legislation and industrial clients, VES has adopted a dedicated management program designed to reduce accidents, properly investigate accidents that do occur and take care of employees who are injured.
In adopting this approach, VES is implementing one of the key commitments in the VE Sustainable Development Charter "to go beyond the minimum legal requirements in terms of improving personal health and safety protection".
