A Guide to Bin Safety -Loading your bin Correctly.

Loading Your Bin Safely

  • Overloaded bins can result in unwanted waste being deposited in the environment. Plant and equipment can be damaged and drivers exposed to unnecessary hazards.

Using Bin Lids Correctly

  • Avoid sprain & crush injuries by using safety latches carefully. Ask your employer if you need assistance. For reasons of safety and hygience, lids should never by permanently propped open. To open the bin, stand in front and lift lid carefully. If you need help please ASK. To close lid, stand at the side and release safety latch, taking care to keep limbs away from any pinch points.

Safe Handling of Bins with Wheels

  • Injuries and property damage are easily sustained by bins situated on uneven, soft surfaces, steep gradients and stored in confined areas. Before you build your bin storage compound, talk to us during the design phase. Moving heavy bins across uneven surfaces can cause severe back and shoulder injuries. Contact your local OHS Authority today to obtain information on Manual Handing requirements for your employees.
