What does Veolia Environmental Services do with food/organics waste?
In both Victoria and New South Wales, Veolia owns and operates specific organic recovery facilities. Organics waste is processed at these facilities with the intent to recover as much material as possible.
Food Waste-to-Energy Facility - Earthpower
Source-separated food waste is placed into an anaerobic digester to produce energy and an organic fertiliser. Earthpower is located in Camellia Sydney.
Natural Recovery Systems – In-vessel composting
Source-separated food waste is converted into rich organic compost (AS4801 certified) through the aerated in-vessel composting process. Veolia owns and operates Natural Recovery Systems, an in-vessel composting facility servicing the Melbourne market (including Chadstone). Veolia also utilises third party licensed facilities in the other States.
