Veolia Environnement Foundation
The Veolia Environnement Foundation was set up in 2004 and is designed to foster advocacy within Veolia on a global scale. The foundation was set up to engage Veolia employees to ensure that Veolia’s corporate patronage had meaning and relevancy to the men and women who work for Veolia, which will ensure complete commitment and engagement in the project.
Presently, the Veolia Foundation has more than 249 projects, of which over half were proposed by VE employees. All of the projects supported by the Foundation are community oriented, aimed at establishing sustainable development within these communities.
Veolia Foundation has recently supported 2 extremely worthwhile Australian Projects:
AADS Australia
When teachers go to meet their students.
In Perth the non-profit organisation; Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Service helps young aborigines suffering from alcoholism and drug adduction.
It has been developing educational programs and providing individual support since 1988. Due to the large distances that many young people have to travel to attend the classes in town, AADS decided to provide support within peoples homes and schools. The funding support provided by Veolia Foundation has therefore gone towards the aquisition of a van with a trailer fully equipped with education materials, allowing the teachers to go to their students.
Scouts Australia
National Indigenous Scouting Program
The National Indigenous Scouting Programme seeks to help foster leadership amongst the youth within aboriginal communities through the establishment of scouting. Supported by the both the State and Federal Governments, the program has already commenced in Queensland. The support from Veolia Environnement, through Veolia Foundation will enable Scouts Australia Development Officers to assist elders to introduce scouting in indigenous communities across Australia. The core objective of the project is to develop a culturally specific leadership and community development program for young Indigenous people in isolated communities with emphasis on strong Indigenous ownership, and strong links to Indigenous social and cultural life and traditional Scouting.
Veolia Foundation three main phases of sponsorsip
Every year €5 million is spent on these projects which are on a global scale and the Foundation has recently outlined the three major areas for consideration for future projects, these are:
Outreach
The Veolia Foundation has supported 93 outreach programs globally covering such needs as access to essential services (clean dinking water, hygiene, energy and food), healthcare and assistance to children and other groups in need such as the elderly, sick and disabled.
Workforce Development
The Foundation has supported 42 projects aimed at helping people outside mainstream society find employment. Most of the initiatives are aimed at helping people find a stable job: advising them on the transition to work, setting up apprenticeships to teach new skills, vocational training, the caring economy and micro-finance.
Environmental Conservation
The Veolia Environnement Foundation has supported 38 environment-related projects, covering conservation of natural resources and heritage, educational activities, raising awareness of eco-citizenship attitudes and behaviour and improving the everyday living environment.
The strong level of commitment demonstrated by VE was recently recognised by Admical, an organisation that has been promoting corporate patronage in France for many years, by the award for the 2006 Admical Oscar to the Foundation.
