Veolia recently was awarded the contract for Fonterra, one of Australia's leading dairy processors. The contract is for transportation & disposal of general waste streams along with all recyclables.
New Sustainability Covenant is launched between Veolia Environmental Services and EPA.
The innovative agreement beckons a new era for reduced prescribed waste generation and subsequent disposal to landfill.
September 25th 2007 Veolia Environmental Services and EPA Victoria officially launched their new Sustainability Covenant. The Covenant is a formal documentation of the partnership between VES and the EPA with the principle objective to reduce prescribed/hazardous waste generation and subsequently disposal to landfill. The covenant has a two fold means to achieve these objectives, firstly via investment in technology at the VES Brooklyn Treatment Facility and secondly via commitment to upstream management of waste on-site at waste generators premises.
Veolia’s unsurpassed commitment to sustainability has been further ratified by this agreement with the EPA. The Sustainability Covenant demonstrates the growing need for environmental entities to work to develop cohesive strategies and technologies that can deliver innovative and sustainable waste management practices with particular focus on hazardous and prescribed waste streams.
EPA Victoria has committed $2MILL of the landfill revenue to accelerate this industry project and deliver reduction outcomes for the commercial sector. This project is one of the first major projects approved that reinvests significant money associated with the increased levies received from 1 July 07.
This partnership and upgrade project will assist the Victorian Government in eliminating high hazard waste going to landfill and anticipates a 32,000 tonne reduction over the next 5 years.
The Sustainability Covenant sets a new benchmark for the approach to prescribed waste management practices within Australia. The ongoing benefits of the investment towards ‘long-term’ and sustainable technologies will ensure the holistic success of the endeavour undertaken by Veolia and the Victorian EPA.
