Veolia Environmental Services Establishes National high Pressure Water Jetting Commitee
The National High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ) committee was formed in 2008 to review high pressure water jetting activities across Veolia Environmental Services, as well as implement the actions required to ensure these activities are being undertaken to the highest possible industry standards.
Peter Nicholas, NSW Group Services Manager, is the convenor of the committee supported by the following operational and compliance staff including Paul Geraghty (VIC), Tony Baird (NSW), Clay South (WA), Will Lee (NSW), David Weinert (QLD), Paul Gallagher (SA/NT), Robert Petrevski (NSW), Jim Bell (WA), with management support provided by Peter Goodwin, Peta Jurd and Tamara Frigot from National Office.
The Committee has completed an extensive amount of work in reviewing equipment specifications and requirements, procurement patterns, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), training and competency levels, International and Australian Industry Standards, and internal documentation.
High Pressure Water Jetting has been identified as an area for which a Fatal Risk Prevention Protocol is required, and the committee have taken on the responsibility for developing ten standard protocols.
Fatal Risk Prevention Protocols are high level documents outlining the minimum measures Veolia has in place to control the risk of injury or ill health associated with specific hazard types. In addition to producing this document, the Committee is dedicated to developing supporting materials that address the specific issues that operators encounter on a daily basis. Their intention is to create the systems, processes and documentation necessary to ensure the safety of HPWJ activities from management level to the coal-face.
The Committee will call upon the support of their local operations staff to provide expertise and input into the development of these processes and documentation and will analyse feedback and trialling of the finished product.
