Through its subsidiary GENERIS, Veolia Environmental Services, as the representative of a consortium of companies(1), has been awarded the first
contract to design, build and operate a vacuum waste collection service in the future Clichy- Batignolles district of the City of Paris. The entry into operational service of the collection terminal and the first vacuum collections are planned to take place before the end of 2013.
The consortium’s revenue over a 12-year period will be €22.3 million. The future eco-district of Clichy-Batignolles, one of the last major areas of the inner city of Paris to be developed, will satisfy the highest environmental requirements.
Eventually, the project will cover a population of about 19,000 inhabitant equivalents, and will be shared between residential units and offices, shops and public facilities.
“Together with our partners, we are very proud to be the first to deploy this innovation to serve the City of Paris,” said Estelle Brachlianoff, Regional Director of Veolia Environmental Services in Ile-de-France. “The deployment of such a system is a real innovation for users, who will reconsider the way in which their waste is managed. It will provide an excellent opportunity to encourage the population to reduce their waste production, and to communicate recycling methods, in order to obtain convincing results,” she added.
The advantages of the vacuum collection of waste, which have already convinced several towns in the Ile-de-France region, include its improvement of the environment, user friendliness and modernity.
(1) The consortium is made up of the co-contractors Veolia Environmental Services, the operator of the vacuum collection and the consortium’s representative, ENVAC, the builder of the installation and of the process, and Devillers et Associés, the architect in charge of completion of the terminal.
