Veolia Wins National Award for Environmental Excellence in Logistics for Woodlawn Facility
Feb 2006

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILTA) is an international organisation for transport and logistics professionals. Its objectives are to support education and professional development in transport and logistics, to provide related information services and to work in partnership with industry, government and service providers to promote best practice in transport and logistics.
The Institute provides an annual regional award to recognise "The Achievement of the Year" by an individual, or organisation that has been a significant innovator in the field of transport and logistics. Those awarded within their region, are then eligible for consideration in the National Awards, hosted by CILTA
With much pride, Veolia Environmental Services received the ACT and Southern NSW "Achievement of the Year Award" for the Woodlawn Bioreactor and related Clyde transport facility in September this year.
The award reflected the innovative nature of the large-scale logistics chain, running from collection of waste from Sydney Councils at Clyde, long distance transport of waste in containers from Clyde to Tarago by rail, movement of the containers from siding to the Woodlawn site by truck, and depositing of waste in the old mine.
This is a unique "reverse logistics" chain, which works efficiently and effectively and which allows for the productive use, and rehabilitation, of a large former mine site.
