Do you know what your waste is costing your business?

With the implementation of the Federal Governments Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS), Australian businesses will be subject to greater waste costs due to increasing transportation and disposal expenses.

Climate Change and Waste

With Climate Change and management of carbon emissions an ever increasing consideration for Australian businesses, it is imperative for decision makers to understand that waste generation needs to be managed sustainably. Recovery of waste streams such as plastics, metals, paper and cardboard, organics, glass and wood for example reduces the reliance on raw materials, whilst also minimising the amount of waste sent to traditional landfills.

Providing Solutions for our Customers

In 2008, in response to a growing need to assist businesses in Australia understand the true costs of their waste; Veolia Environmental Services developed a unique Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Estimator and Reporting Tool. The availability of Veolia’s GHG Reporting tool and estimator will assist businesses in understanding the lifecycle of the waste produced by their operations and the solutions that VES can provide to not only encourage waste minimisation at the source, but also best practice disposal alternatives which are less carbon intensive than traditional waste collection and disposal solutions within the marketplace.

GHG foot printing is the integral first step in the reduction of emissions, and helps businesses understand the ways in which they can not only reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through waste minimisation and resource recovery strategies, but also the economic savings to be made.

The VES GHG Estimator and Reporting Tool

The VES GHG Estimator has been developed to showcase various waste disposal scenarios and the potential savings businesses can make through the implementation of a waste management and recycling system provided by Veolia Environmental Services. The Estimator gives an overall assessment of your businesses current waste related carbon emissions, based on volumes, disposal options, transportation needs and availability of resource recovery solutions. Once calculated, VES will then provide the potential savings to be made through implementing source separated recycling systems and diverting your current waste materials away from traditional landfill in favour of Resource Recovery facilities where applicable.

To provide our clients with complete assurance and accountability in relation to their waste related GHG emissions, VES had also developed a GHG Reporting Tool which allows businesses complete transparency on the amount of Carbon Emissions produced through their waste management and recycling system once implemented. The Reporting tool has been independently verified by Hyder Consulting and provides our clients with highly comprehensive and accurate data on the amount of carbon produced and ultimately saved through a holistic waste management and recycling system.
