The NSW Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2003 challenged the municipal and commercial sectors of NSW with a target of dramatically increasing the recovery of materials from waste.
Veolia Environmental Services is helping to meet this challenge by developing new alternative waste treatment facilities: the Woodlawn Alternative Sorting and Processing (WASP) and the Woodlawn Composted Organics and Greenwaste (WOCOG) facilities.
The WASP facility has been designed to recover resources from waste. This new facility will be located at Veolia’s Woodlawn Eco-Precinct, complementing the existing resource recovery activities of the Woodlawn Bioreactor. Woodlawn Alternative Sorting and Processing (WASP) is a resource recovery facility that will:
The Woodlawn Composted Organics and Greenwaste (WOCOG) facility will produce a high quality compost from source separated garden organics, for use in on-site rehabilitation and soil improvement.
The public exhibition of the Development Application and Environmental Assessment report for the proposed Woodlawn Alternative Waste Technology facilities has now closed.
The public exhibition period gave an opportunity for the public to make submissions directly to the NSW State Government's Department of Planning, who will be assessing the project.
